Sitges International Film Festival 2010
SITGES International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia is the number one fantasy film festival in the world and represents, at the same time, the cultural expression with the most media impact in Catalonia. With a solid experience, the Sitges Festival is a stimulating universe of encounters, exhibitions, presentations and screenings of fantasy films from all over the world.
Born in 1968 as the 1st International Week of Fantasy and Horror Movies, today the Festival is an essential rendezvous for movie lovers and audiences eager to come into contact with new tendencies and technologies applied to film and the audiovisual world.
Sitges’ status as the number one fantasy film festival in the world allows it to receive visits from top-level movie stars, directors and producers like Quentin Tarantino, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster, Paul Verhoeven, Ralph Fiennes, George A. Romero, Cameron Diaz, Viggo Mortensen, among others from the long list of people who, year after year, are a media attraction.
Sitges, the Festival’s venue, is one of the most emblematic spots on the Catalan coast. Located just 35 kilometers south of Barcelona, it is connected to center city (25 minutes) and the airport (15 minutes) by excellent road, motorway and railway links. Traditionally associated with culture and tourism, Sitges has always been a pioneer in many different aspects, including the organization of festivals and other events (Sitges International Theater, International tango Festival, Summer Concert Series-Festival, International Vintage Car Rally) with an enormous economic, cultural and festive scope.
The town draws people to it thanks to its beaches, the seaside promenade, its historical center, the marina, its museums, its leisure options and its wide range of neoclassic, Catalan modernism and noucentista (post Art Nouveau cultural movement) buildings, that have all made Sitges one of the most attractive spots on the Mediterranean coast.
Once and again, the charming village of Sitges becomes and attraction thanks to its wide range of cultural offers.
